We are saddened to announce the death of long serving teacher and highly respected King’s College staff member Mr John Alfred Edward Bean JP. John joined King’s in 1975 as Head of Technical Drawing. During some 49 years at the College, he also worked as Master in Charge of Community Service, Director of Glee Club, Admissions, College Archivist and served as Marsden House Master and Middlemore Lodge House Master. In 2018 John told the King’s Courier Magazine “I have been privileged in working with wonderful teachers and support staff; of teaching great kids and getting to know their families over the 44 years I have been at the College – what more can one ask? In 2018 he was invited to become an Honorary Old Collegian and was awarded Life Member of the KCOCA - an honour that was bestowed for services to either the Association or the College. John was one of only two Honorary Old Collegians to ever receive this honour. We wish to pay our respects to a fine King’s man who will be very much missed by this community. Virtus Pollet |
