Mr John Taylor
Monday, 15 April 2024
It is with great sadness that the KCOCA acknowledge the passing of John Taylor, former Headmaster of King’s College (1988-2002).

John was a well respected colleague and leader to many in our King’s community and this is a significant loss of a man who gave much to the school.

During his time as Headmaster he was instrumental in bringing technology into the classroom, championed the all-round educational offering and executed a tireless building programme which the College still benefits from today.

Many of our KCOCA members will remember their entrance interview with Mr Taylor who welcomed them in with a warm smile and chatted with them and their families as they got to know each other.

John was made a Life Member of the KCOCA in 2007 and was often in attendance at KCOCA events, lending his support with enthusiasm and enjoying the opportunity to catch up with past students.

His funeral was held on Thursday April 4 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell, Auckland.

The College contributed an item from the Chapel Choir to the service and a Haka was be performed outside the Cathedral by King’s students.

At the funeral Old Collegian, The Honorable Justice Simon Moore (Parnell,1967-71) paid tribute to John Taylor alongside some beautiful tributes and reflections from John's brother and children.
