The time-honoured tradition of King's College vs AGS rugby returned to London this July, with a game of rugby under the Northern summer sun, in pursuit of victory and the coveted Buchanan - Myers Cup – named after two prestigious old boys from each school - Sir Doug Myers (School, 1952-56) and Sir John Buchanan (AGS). Players were joined by friends and family at Rosslyn Park RFC in Barnes, London, on Sunday 7 July for the hotly contested tag-rugby match. King's was triumphant on the day with a 14-6 win for the second time in a row - retaining the cup and the glory! The game was followed with drinks and food at the after-match function held onsite at the rugby club. The whole event was a great opportunity for some fun interschool rivalry as well as a great chance for Kings Old Collegians to re-connect and network with other UK-based Alumni from across our two great school communities. AGS also ran their side of the event as a fundraiser for their AGS Hardship fund and King's may look to do something similar in the future. We wish to extend our thanks to all those involved in the successful organisation of this event.Particularly those on the ground in London: - The AGS London Team of Louise Parkin, James Mundie and Henry Watt, as well as our King's Captain and organiser Henry Wakefield (Greenbank, 2006-10). We hope to see this as a regular event in the KCOCA Calendar so please get in touch at kcoca@kingscollege.school.nz if you would like to sign up for comms about London – Rugby in the Park or other KCOCA events happening in London. |
